Leaning on my former life

I received an unexpected boost in the early days of KickOff when a good friend from university, who also became a close cohort in my early days at the Daily Express, rang me unexpectedly . His career had taken him into the realms of video production and he was working on a new multi-media experience to tie in with next year's World Cup but needed help with the content.

He explained the vast extent of his library from which he had to generate a final showreel - his problem was making sure he did not leave out any of the most iconic footage.

Using fundamental bid-writing principles, I placed the end customer at the focus of my mindset and, thanks to my comprehensive knowledge of football, selected clips that they would want to see. The added value then came from items they would be surprised by, from the deeper corners of the archive. Diligently cross-referencing season-by-season to ensure nothing was missed, three days later I presented a working research script from which the studio could start to build the final production.

It was a change from bid-writing and an exciting project to be associated with, not least because the studio in question is owned by... and sadly it is at this point that the NDA kicks in!
